"You ask him….No, YOU ask him…No you - I'm morto, what if it's not him?! I'd be a FOOL then..."

That's how it might have played out on the DART, but on a New Orleans streetcar, everyone just ignored the bit-mad busker who had a look of a Beatle about him.

Turns out though, it really was Paul McCartney.

Tram passenger Robert Senft takes up the story for the Daily Mirror: "This guy got on the street car and started singing Beatles songs. Everyone was just ignoring him really because there are a lot of buskers in this town.

"Then we realised it was Paul McCartney and we were just in shock. He started singing along with the whole carriage and taking pictures. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. One of the best days of my life."

Macca kicked off his tram gig (that's so now) with 'A Hard Day's Night' before launching into a mash-up of the Fab Four's biggest hits.

Super-fan Robert Retz posted on Facebook: "As it turned out, he had security with him. He just wanted to take a ride on a street car."

Paul and wife Nancy are staying in New Orleans for the annual Mardi Gras carnival, so they are.
