Bruce Springsteen wowed crowds at the RDS in Dublin last night as he played the first of two gigs in Ireland.

An estimated attendance of 35,000, including film director Steven Spielberg, were in raptures as the 62-year-old delivered hit after hit.

But the Boss made a lasting impression on one little girl - who he called up from the audience to join him on stage for a song.

He spotted six-year-old Sophie Sutton, from Leopardstown in Dublin on her Dad's shoulders in the front row - and lifted her onto the stage.

Springsteen's set lasted almost three and a half hours, with various references to his recent London gig which ended prematurely due to curfew restrictions when Paul McCartney joined him and his E Street Band on stage.

At the start of last night's perfromance, the star flipped a power generator on stage and said: "Before we were so rudely interrupted…" before playing the final minute of the Beatles' 'Twist and Shout' - the song that was abruptly cut short in Hyde Park last Saturday.

He plays another gig at the sold out venue again this evening and is expected on stage around 7.30pm.
