Music fans are heading to Mayo in their thousands this evening for the first ever Westport Festival of Music and Performing Arts.

Music fans are heading to Mayo in their thousands this evening for the first ever Westport Festival of Music and Performing Arts.

The two-day event features 50 bands across three stages and a 'Taste of Westport' food event.

Some of the well known names taking to the stage later include Ray Davies, the Waterboys, The Dubliners, Horslips, The Undertones, Damien Dempsey, and David Kitt.

Gardaí in Westport are advising those attending the festival at Westport House to use the car parks being operated by the festival organisers.
