Danny: We're not up against 'BGT'

Danny O’Donoghue doesn’t see ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ as “competition” for ‘The Voice’.

The Script frontman – who is a mentor on the BBC show alongside Jessie J, will.i.am and Tom Jones – does not think it was necessary to pit the two programmes against each other in the ratings because they are very different from each other.

He said: “In a day and age when you can watch anything at any time, I don’t really see why they needed to pit them against each other.

“There really is room for both. We didn’t see it as much of a competition because we’re totally different shows.”

Danny beat off competition from ‘Pop Idol’ winner Will Young and Mary J. Blige to be a coach on ‘The Voice’, and he believes it was his experience in The Script which helped him land the job.

He added to BBC Radio 1’s ‘Newsbeat’: “I think what I had to offer was the fact that we’ve done things the hard way, we’ve been around the circuit. I’m the only one up there that’s been in a band. I was dibs in.”
