Former 'Fair City' star wows 'BGT' judges with love song

An Irish singer/songwriter wowed the judges on 'Britain’s Got Talent' last night with a love song about a mystery girl.

Ryan O’Shaughnessy – who spent nine years on ‘Fair City’ and recently competed on 'The Voice of Ireland' – impressed Simon Cowell, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon with ‘No Name’, his self penned declaration of love to a friend, although he refused to name her despite encouragement from the panel.

Simon said: “Have you played her that song? So that’s the first time she’s ever gonna hear it? Wow.

"Well, if that doesn’t work, nothing will. Are you sure you don’t want to give me the name? But she’s gonna know when she watches this, I presume? I think you’ve got a brilliant sense of melody, I think your lyrics are superb. And I love your voice.”

David added: “I can’t believe she won’t go out with you. That’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard, sung incredibly well. That was absolutely astonishing. Well done.”

Alesha was equally impressed, saying: “Ryan, that was really sweet and sincere. I really enjoyed it. And I felt it. It was really lovely. Well done.”

Following the show last night, Simon sent Ryan a message on twitter asking if the song had worked on his mystery crush and the 19-year-old musician replied: “Im stll working on it (sic).”

However, Ryan admitted he is worried that he could be kicked off ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ because he was under contract to ‘The Voice of Ireland’ when he first auditioned, even though he got eliminated in the first live round.

He explained to the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “I entered ‘BGT’ last year but soon afterwards my mum entered me in ‘The Voice’.

“I didn’t know she was going to do it, but we thought, ‘what harm can it do’. We had no idea I’d get so far.

“I’ve always wanted to be on ‘BGT’ so it would be a real blow if I had to leave. It’s the better stage.”
