'Corrie' stars disturbed by violent storylines

A number of ‘Coronation Street’ stars are reportedly upset about the show's violent storylines including the recent brutal murder of rapist Frank Foster (Andrew Lancel).

While executive producer Phil Collinson vowed to ditch the grisly scenes and bring back more family friendly plotlines when he took over in 2010, some of the actors and actresses are said to upset this hasn’t happened and instead 10 characters have died since his appointment.

An unnamed star told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It is beyond a joke. ‘Coronation Street’ is officially the most violent place in Britain.

“We need to turn our backs on the killings and rapes and go back to the gentle northern humour that made ‘Coronation Street’ so popular. Let ‘EastEnders’ do the violence, we should stick to what we do best.”

However, a spokesman for the show said: “’Coronation Street’ is the perfect balance of drama, comedy and human interest.

“Storylines like this have been the bedrock of ‘Coronation Street’ for over 50 years and viewing figures of over 11 million show people continue to enjoy the show.

“The tram crash was acknowledged by critics, fans and awards panels alike to be one of the show’s all-time high points.”
