Liam Gallagher tops 7in vinyl charts
Liam Gallagher has proved to be the king of vinyl as his band Beady Eye dominated 7in singles sales in the past year.
The band – formed following Oasis’s split – took three of the top five places in a vinyl countdown of top-selling singles, with debut single The Roller topping the list.
Gallagher’s brother Noel, now a solo act, was in fifth position in the 7in chart and it proved to be an all-Mancunian top five as Morrissey took third place.
The list of 2011 sales was unveiled today by the Official Charts Company.
Overall sales of 7in singles continued to decline – down 20% on the previous year.
There were just 122,000 vinyl singles sold in the UK during the year, compared with 152,000 copies in 2010.
But vinyl albums were on the up, reaching a six-year high with 341,000 sales.
Radiohead’s The King Of Limbs was the biggest-selling vinyl album of the year.
