Oscar nominations to be revealed today

The Oscar nominations will be announced later today, with expectations that 'The Artist' will feature in a number of categories.

The mostly silent film - about the decline of the silent film industry - has already won three Golden Globes and has been nominated for 12 Baftas.

Irish actor Michael Fassbender is also expected to be nominated in the Best Actor category for his role in 'Shame'.

The Oscar nominations will be announced by Jennifer Lawrence at a 10-minute, predawn ceremony at the headquarters of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in California (1.38pm Irish time).
