Rushdie dismisses demand to stay out of India

Salman Rushdie has dismissed demands by an influential Islamic seminary in India to stay out of the country.

The controversial author is due to attend a literature festival there later this month.

The novelist spent a decade in hiding after Iran's spiritual leader called for his death in 1989 - after publication of his book 'The Satanic Verses'.
