Womble removes head on live BBC broadcast

The BBC is in trouble with parents after horrified children saw a musician in a womble suit remove his head during a live broadcast.

Families had tuned in to watch the wombles on Radio2's website via a live video stream on Tuesday where they sang two songs including a wombling Merry Christmas.

But as the interview came to a close Orinocco, played by songwriter Mike Batt, whipped off his head while the webcast was still underway, shattering the belief that the Wombles are real.

The BBC swiftly removed the footage from the website.

Batt has apologised but blamed BBC staff for telling him he was no longer on air.
