Gleeson and Fassbender nominated for Golden Globe awards
Irish actors Brendan Gleeson and Michael Fassbender are both up for awards as the 69th annual Golden Globe award nominations were announced this afternoon.
The Irish co-production 'Albert Nobbs' received a number of nominations including Best Song for 'Lay Your Head Down', co-written by Irish musician Brian Byrne and sung by Sinead O’Connor.
Gleeson has been given a nod in the Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical category for his role in ‘The Guard’.
Fassbender, nominated for his role in 'Shame', will be competing with George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt for the Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama crown.
Comedy or Musical Motion Picture nominees include 'The Artist', 'Bridesmaids', '50/50', 'My Week With Marilyn' and 'Midnight in Paris'.
Best comedy series nominees include 'New Girl', 'Modern Family', 'Enlightened', 'Glee' and 'Episodes'.
The Globes will be presented on January 15, and hosted by Ricky Gervais.
