Fassbender's 'Shame' competes for film awards gong
The first big bash of the awards season takes place tonight as three movies lead nominations at the British Independent Film Awards in London.
'Shame', 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' and 'Tyrannosaur' lead the nominations with seven nods.
'We Need to Talk About Kevin' and 'Kill List' have six nominations.
Kenneth Branagh will be honoured with The Variety Award which recognises those who help focus the international spotlight on Britain.
The ceremony at Old Billingsgate is being hosted by Chris O'Dowd.
