Von Trier 'not sorry' for Hitler remark
Lars von Trier has taken back his apology for saying at the Cannes Film Festival he sympathises with Adolf Hitler.
Earlier this year at Cannes, the Danish film-maker said he had believed he was Jewish until his mother told him on her deathbed that he was not.
He said his German ancestry made him "sympathise with (Hitler) a little bit". He added that he supports Jews.
Von Trier, who was showcasing his film 'Melancholia', apologised, but was banned for the rest of the festival and declared "persona non grata".
But in the October issue of GQ magazine, von Trier said he is not sorry, only that he wishes he had made clear he was joking.
He said: "I can't be sorry for what I said. It's against my nature."
