Washington in line to take lead in Argentinian remake

Denzel Washington has reportedly been offered the lead role in remake of 'The Secret in Their Eyes'.

The 'American Gangster' actor is in line to star as Benjamín Esposito – who was originally played by Ricardo Darin in the 2009 movie – in the reboot of the Oscar-winning Argentinean film.

The motion picture - which is to be written and directed by Billy Ray - tells the story of a retired legal counsellor who aims to find closure for one of his previous unresolved homicide cases by writing a novel about the crime and his unreciprocated love with his superior.

The original – which was directed by Juan Jose Campanella - won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

But before he takes up the role, Denzel will star alongside Ryan Reynolds in 'Safe House', where he will play a criminal on the run in South America after his hideaway is attacked.

The 56-year-old actor is also thought to be in line to star in Robert Zemeckis' thriller movie 'Flight', which would see him playing the part of a pilot who rescues his passengers when the engines fail on a plane he is flying.
