Speaker's wife shown the BB door

The wife of the Speaker of the House of Commons became the first contestant to be voted off 'Celebrity Big Brother' – and immediately hit out at politicians who tried to stop her entering the show.

Sally Bercow, 41, wife of Conservative John Bercow, got the push in a public telephone vote over reality TV veteran Kerry Katona and the largely unknown model Bobby Sabel.

Mrs Bercow emerged from the house and said: “I had a lot of opposition to be going into the house – well, from various people in the political world and indeed from my husband who I love very much.

“But he did not want me to go into the Big Brother House...a lot of people did not want me to go in because it’s not something the Speaker’s wife does.”

She added: “I’m really glad I’ve done it, partly because I’ve raised £100,000 for my charity.”

The mother-of-three could have done with her husband’s Commons shout of “Order, order,” when she emerged stunned from the house to a chorus of fans’ boos.

And in her post eviction interview she told the host Brian Dowling she was disappointed to be the first booted out of the house.

“How embarrassing is that?” she said.

“I’m a bit embarrassed to be the first one out – it’s a bit of a loser thing to be the first one out but I’m looking forward to seeing my children.”

Mrs Bercow, who gave a frank interview to the Evening Standard posed in a bedsheet and saying how “sexy” it was to live within earshot of Big Ben, said she knew Katona, a former Atomic Kitten singer and star of 'I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here', would not be voted off before her.

Mrs Bercow made an unlikely friendship inside the house with Irish traveller Paddy Doherty who sprang to fame after appearing in the television series 'My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding'.

Talking affectionately about Doherty, a former bare-knuckled fighter who lives in a Manchester caravan park, she said: “You wouldn’t have predicted it, we’re from completely different worlds.

“But as soon as I met him there was just something so genuine, just real about him.

“And I did like the accent too.”

The politician’s wife now returns to civilian life and the near 30,000 fans she has on Twitter.
