Will Young set for change of musical direction

Will Young thinks it was the "right time" for him to change his sound.

The 'Jealousy' singer has changed from a classic pop style to embrace a more synthesiser driven sound reminiscent of the 80s on his new album 'Echoes', and although it was "tricky", he was ready for the change.

He said: "The album refers back to the Pet Shop Boys, Communards, that kind of very simple synth pop.

"Changing your sound is a tricky thing to do, but I think it's come about at the right time and from the right place. It's not a massive change, and it's very genuine."

Will, 32, has not done many tracks with other singers in his career so far, but is a fan of Gossip singer Beth Ditto and is disappointed he could not get her to appear on a planned track for 'Echoes'.

He added to website DigitalSpy: "There was actually one collaboration that was meant to happen on this album but didn't in the end.

"I'd love to do something with Beth Ditto - that would be so cool! Her EP is so amazing - very Madonna. I don't know why she didn't do a full album!"

'Echoes' is out now.
