Director: Kenneth Branagh
Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Kat Dennings
Another comic-book favourite comes to gripping life in Branagh’s masterful, fast-moving, colourful and action-packed epic … no surprise, really, that the great purveyor of the Bard on stage and screen should triumph with Shakesperian elegance.
And Branagh brings us a relatively unknown actor as a star for the future in Australian hunk Hemsworth, playing with relish the arrogant hero who is banished from the land of Asgard to live with humans and, hopefully, learn some humility … and while he’s at it he finds time to be of assistance.
It’s a simple enough story – even at times a little on the cheesy side – but Branagh handles it all and never allows it to run wildly out of control. He is, too, quite brilliantly served by such established names as Hopkins and Portman.
A fun movie that keeps serving up treat after treat.
