'Pina 3D' magnificently beautiful
Director: Wim Wenders
Cast: Pina Bausch, Rainer Behr, Regina Advento, Andrey Berezin
Cert: PG
Wenders brings another genre into the growing family of 3D films, that of the arthouse documentary.
And how magnificently beautiful it works, adding depth and substance, light and shade to its subject of dance.
The film is a triumph out of tragedy for the central subject – the revolutionary German choreographer Bausch – died just two days before shooting was scheduled to begin, forcing Wenders to continue his moving tribute by bringing in her dance colleagues and friends to lend their thoughts.
The film shows in wonderful detail just what the world of dance has lost with the passing of Pina, but it will certainly inspire a wider use of 3D in the making of films about the arts.
