'Scream 4' surprisingly ordinary

The master of horror and gore returns to helm the fourth in what has become a very successful series, but somehow the usually-reliable Craven cannot find anything new to say and, rather, relies on bringing us a disappointing B movie weak on storyline but heavy on sleaze.

Director: Wes Craven

Cast: Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Kieran Culkin, Dane Farwell, Emma Roberts, Mary McDonnell

It’s 10 years on from where the story left off and Sidney (Campbell) has become a successful writer of self-help books, currently on a nationwide promo tour that takes her back to Woodsboro to meet up again with the now-married Sheriff Dewey (Arquette) and Gale (Cox), Jill (Roberts) and Kate (McDonnell) … a reunion which includes the Ghostface Killer (Farwell) and untold danger for all concerned.

Fans, of which there are many, will lap it up, but they mustn’t expect 4 to be anything but ordinary.
