Singing sensation Susan Boyle turned 50 today to a chorus of birthday greetings from around the globe.
She said a “few well-known faces” would join her at a party in her native Scotland to see in her half-century.
Boyle has planned the bash for close family and friends near her home in Blackburn, West Lothian.
Hundreds of fans from around the world have already sent birthday greetings via the Britain’s Got Talent star’s website and Facebook page.
Talent show judge Simon Cowell led the tributes to an “amazing lady”.
Boyle was catapulted from obscurity to global stardom after appearing on the 2009 'Britain’s Got Talent' contest.
She became an international star after her performance of 'I Dreamed A Dream' from the musical 'Les Miserables' stunned the audience and judges on the ITV1 show.
She said: “I’m looking forward to turning 50. There’s not much I can do about it but I’m happy to be reaching this birthday.
“I guess I’m living proof that none of us know what’s around the corner and, while I may have started a little late, I really hope I can be around for a wee while longer!
“I’ve had some wonderful moments throughout my life, especially over the past two years, and I would like to thank everyone for their kindness and encouragement. I wouldn’t be here without it and I appreciate it every single day.”
She told the Scottish Sun she was having a “small party” as “a way of spoiling them and saying thank you for all the help and support they have given me over the years”.
“There may well be a few well-known faces coming but my lips are sealed.”
The singer has just started recording her third album.
A devout Roman Catholic, she fulfilled one of her biggest dreams last year by performing for Pope Benedict XVI during his visit to Britain.
Cowell sent her a message for her special day, saying: “Happy 50th birthday, Susan. You are an amazing lady and I hope you have a fantastic day.”
Fans have also presented her with a massive quilt embroidered with the names of 500 fans, friends, family and other people who have helped her in the last couple of years.
