That certain rugged charm possessed by former wrestler Dwayane ‘The Rock’ Johnson isn’t really enough … sure, he can sort-of act in mindless actioners such as this, but if he wants a more substantial career he should be looking for scripts that test him.

Here, we get a ho-hum yarn about revenge, that clapped out hook for such films. Johnson plays Driver, newly released from 10 years in clink and seeking revenge for the death of his brother, both having been double-crossed for a crime.

And Driver seeks revenge at all costs, the more bodies littering the screen – and obscuring what frail story there might be – the better. Cue car chases and, alas, disappointing related action.

Oh yes – and naturally – he is trailed by a druggie cop, called Cop (Thornton), and a nutcase hitman (Cohen) while Grace treats the lads to a fleshfest in a tiny black bikini … all such predictable tripe.
