Jackson begins 'Hobbit' shooting

Filming has begun on Peter Jackson's production of 'The Hobbit' in New Zealand.

The two-movie production had been hampered by studio funding problems, a threatened actors' strike and ulcer surgery for Jackson himself.

He has now posted a press release on his website to say that production is under way.

Martin Freeman will play the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, and the cast also includes Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett.
