RTE presenter Baz Ashmawy has been given a two-year road ban for drink driving.

The 2fm host has been suspended for a month without pay by his bosses following the incident in Rathmines in Dublin on February 25.

Mr Ashmawy entered a guilty plea to a charge of drink driving at this his first court appearance .

His lawyers said the suspended 2fm host was very embarrassed and wished to apologise for driving while over the alcohol limit.

It is understood he was arrested near his home in Rathmines in the early hours of the morning two weeks ago when he caused minor damage to another car while trying to park.

The broadcaster’s driving license has been suspended for two years and one day and he has also been fined €350.

Dressed in a dark blue suit, the 35-year-old ignored reporters as he left the court and was driven away.
