Gibson 'to face fight charge'

Oscar-winning actor Mel Gibson is to be charged in connection with a fight last year with his then-girlfriend and has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors, a source familiar with the case has said.

The source said Gibson will be charged in Los Angeles with battery over the January 2010 dispute with Oksana Grigorieva.

Prosecutors have not yet announced a decision on whether to charge Ms Grigorieva with extortion, which Gibson has been seeking.

The actor-director’s lawyer, Blair Berk, said Gibson sought the plea agreement after prioritising the interests of his children, including an infant daughter with Ms Grigorieva.
