Hathaway: I will not mock other celebs at Oscars
Anne Hathaway has promised not to mock other celebrities at the Academy Awards.
The 28-year-old actress is set to co-host the ceremony with James Franco on Sunday but says she wouldnât feel comfortable poking fun at the nominees and other guests, and also doesnât feel she has earned the ârightâ to do so.
She said: âI can guarantee that if youâre looking for someone to call people out, weâre not your hosts. I think that humour is really difficult to pull off, and Iâm not particularly adept at it. I wouldnât feel comfortable doing it.
âAlso, I donât mean to sound overly serious, but I am the youngest host in history and I have no business being cynical or calling anyone out. I certainly havenât earned the right to do that.â
The âDevil Wears Pradaâ star also admitted she only accepted the hosting role after Franco was on board because he eased some of her fears about presenting such a huge live show â though she claims she now worries about other ways the âunconventionalâ actor can wreak havoc with the format.
She added in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter: âI initially had a knee-jerk reaction, which was âno.â I just focused on all the ways it could go wrong.
âBut (show producer) Bruce Cohen was a bit craftier than I had realised because while I was hosting âSaturday Night Liveâ in November, while I was loving the idea of hosting something and doing the song-and-dance thing, Bruce came back and said, âWe have James Franco.â
âJames is so brave and so willing to make unconventional choices. All the ways I was worried about it going wrong, it wouldnât go wrong in any of those ways. It could go wrong in entirely new ways.â
The 83rd Academy Awards will take place at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
