Irish actress Saoirse Ronan's father has said she and he were "very surprised" at her win, after she scooped her fifth IFTA award in Dublin last night.

Irish actress Saoirse Ronan's father has said she and he were "very surprised" at her win, after she scooped her fifth IFTA award in Dublin last night.

The young Carlow native was honoured for her performance in the movie 'The Way Back' in the Supporting Actress category.

A host of celebrities attend the 8th annual Irish Film and Television Awards at the Convention Centre.

Amy Huberman, Domhnall Gleeson and Martin McCann also received awards.

Speaking after the ceremony Saoirse's father Paul said he was very proud of his daughter.

"I'm always proud of her, but I'm very surprised…(The others) are all brilliant actresses," he said, also revealing that the family calls Saoirse's new award her 'FIFTA' (fifth IFTA).
