Lohan charged with necklace theft

US prosecutors have charged Lindsay Lohan over the theft of a $2,500 (€1,822) necklace.

The 24-year-old actress was charged with felony grand theft and is due to be arraigned later today.

Lohan's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, has denied the necklace was stolen.

Prosecutors are asking that bail be set at $20,000 (€14,574).

The charge is the latest legal problem for the starlet, who remains on probation for a 2007 drink-driving case.

Police began investigating Lohan after a shop in the beachside community of Venice reported the necklace missing on January 22.
