‘Nenette’ an interesting examination of zoo life

Director: Nicolas Philibert

A real charmer, even if at times it moves a tad on the slow side … much like the lady of the title.

Nenette, an off-beat documentary with loads of kiddie-appeal, is the story of a 41-year-old Bornio Orangutan who has lived in the Paris Zoo since 1972, seeing off a couple of gentleman callers and now on the pill.

She lives with son Tubo and we follow her through the unseen, but overheard, visitors and keepers. An actor offers us the lady’s thoughts.

Mostly she seems content not to do much … there’s a message there for all of us.
