Police in Los Angeles today said they were investigating actress Lindsay Lohan over the possible theft of jewellery that was returned after detectives obtained a search warrant.

Officer Bruce Borihanh said a jewellery shop in the Venice area of Los Angeles, where Lohan now lives, reported a 2,500 US dollar (€1,800) piece missing on January 22.

He said a grand theft investigation was opened, and officers obtained a search warrant for Lohan’s home yesterday.

The jewellery was handed over to detectives before the warrant was executed.

Lohan remains on probation for a 2007 drunk-driving case.

Her lawyer was not available for comment.
