‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ best of the series
Director: Michael Apted
Cast: Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, Will Poulter, Skandar Keynes, Liam Neeson
A welcome return to the Pevensie children and their fantastic adventures in Narnia, the magical land created by Belfast-born C.S. Lewis … and this is the best of the bunch.
Having grown up and into their roles Henley (Lucy) and Keynes (Edward) and cousin Eustace (Poulter) bring a maturity to the film that certainly enhances it as they meet up with Prince Caspian (Barnes) for a voyage on the Dawn Treader that sweeps them to the edge of the world and meetings with an exciting collection of dwarves, warriors and dragons.
Surprisingly, the 3D effects are disappointing but the film is saved, greatly so, by its sheer drive and by some excellent action sequences.
There is, of course, always the question of Lewis’s ‘message’ laced throughout the Narnia stories but who cares when they have been brought to the screen with such style and verve.
Star Rating: 5/5
