Ryder steps up quit threats

Grumpy Shaun Ryder has stepped up his threats to leave 'I’m A Celebrity' - because he is worn out by socialising with so many other contestants.

The Happy Mondays frontman – known for tracks such as '24 Hour Party People' – is on the verge of leaving following the arrival of the latest newcomer, Alison Hammond.

Ryder, who has struggled to stay awake as a result of a thyroid problem, said he finds it difficult to cope with bubbly people.

As soon as Hammond arrived in camp, the singer scuttled off to the show’s Bush Telegraph to moan: “Oh, more f****** people in the camp. And a loud person and a cheery person as well.

“She’s probably a really nice person, don’t get me wrong. I like Alison."

He continued: “I just don’t want to go through it."

Earlier this week Ryder grumbled that he was thinking of departing the 'I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here!' camp after a week. He joked that he would be suicidal if he stuck it out for a fortnight.

Explaining his reaction to Hammond’s arrival to new friend Jenny Eclair, Ryder said: “It’s big, loud people, over-friendly people I can’t stick.

“I’m sure she is a lovely person but it should have been a bloke who came in.”

Ryder has enjoyed his solitude during his stint on the show and sat alone when 'This Morning' reporter Hammond handed out pieces of chocolate she had brought into the camp.

And he told her: “If I do bail, it’s absolutely nothing personal. It’s just that there are too many people.”
