‘Mammoth’ a well-observed take on modern life
Director: Lukas Moodysson
Cast: Gael Garcia Bernal, Michelle Williams, Sophie Nyweide, Marife Necesito
Cert: 15
In many ways 'Mammoth' is about a monster … the modern world we live in and often can’t quite cope with. It’s a story about the demands of living in a world of global pressures and the resulting family pressures and values.
Leo (Bernal) is a successful designer of computer games who has to fly to Thailand to get a massive contract, leaving dedicated surgeon wife Ellen (Williams) at home in New York with young daughter Jackie (Nyweide) who is growing increasingly close to nanny Gloria (Necesito), who pines for her own family left behind in the Phillipines.
And while he’s in Bankok Leo makes decisions that are to impact in life-changing ways on all of them.
This is a carefully observed, complex human drama that paints a horrifying picture of the global village.
