Storm Lee was booted off the X Factor tonight after he polled the lowest number of viewer votes.

He failed to impress the audience with his rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run.

After getting the fewest public votes the 37-year-old was automatically kicked out of the competition.

The Edinburgh-born musician told host Dermot O’Leary: “You have not seen the best of me yet.”

Groups Belle Amie and Diva Fever polled the next lowest totals of votes and faced a sing-off with their fate decided by the judging panel.

Diva Fever tried to save themselves with a camp performance of Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive but their fate was sealed when three of the judges opted to send them home.

Simon Cowell was saved from making a tough decision after Cheryl Cole, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue all picked the duo to leave the contest.

Cowell, who mentored both acts, refused say who he would have chosen after the other judges made their decisions.

The ferocious judge said he took “full responsibility” for the duo’s departure after he made them perform Duck Sauce’s song Barbra Streisand on last night’s musical heroes themed show.
