Hotpot war set to erupt on Street

'Coronation Street' character Betty Williams will take revenge when the secret recipe for her famous hotpot is stolen in the hit ITV1 soap.

Ex-colleague Ciaran McCarthy, played by Keith Duffy, 41, swipes the closely-guarded recipe for the iconic dish before serving it up in rival pub The Joinery.

Livid Betty - played by Betty Driver, 90 - and Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald (Bev Callard) decide to take revenge by saying they have seen giant rats in Nick Tilsley's bar.

According to the Daily Star newspaper, Betty tells Liz: "I'll kill that Ciaran. I don't care if they send me to prison for the rest of my natural life. I'll string him up."

The storyline comes as the meaty meal - which has been served in the Rovers Return pub for decades by barmaid Betty - will be written out of the show later this year.

It will be taken off the menu as show bosses are worried the actress will retire soon.

A tasty new dish is now being considered to replace Betty's signature creation, the recipe of which the actress has managed to keep secret throughout her 41 years on the soap.

Character Sally Webster's herby lamb cobbler is now front runner to replace it.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "It's been discussed at a very high level what will happen to the hotpots once Betty has quit the show.

"The consensus is that it would be a fitting tribute to Betty to let the hotpots leave with her."
