David Beckham is suing a magazine on the grounds it knowingly published false claims about his private life.

Lawyers for the England star filed the suit in Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday.

The lawsuit accuses Delaware-based Bauer Publishing Company LP and its affiliates of libel, slander and intentional infliction of emotional distress for the In Touch magazine article.

It also names Irma Nici, who is quoted as having made the allegations about the former England football captain.

Beckham’s publicist Jeff Raymond said suits are being filed in other jurisdictions including Germany, where Bauer’s parent corporation is located.
