Charlatans drummer's brain tumour ends US tour

Indie rockers The Charlatans have postponed the remaining dates of their US tour after their drummer was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Jon Brookes collapsed on stage during a gig in Philadelphia last week and is being treated back in the UK.

A statement released by the band said they are arranging a “short-term replacement” for Brookes.

It concluded: “The band and Jon would like to thank all well-wishers for their kind messages of support.”

The band, who have had more than 20 top 40 hits, released their debut single Indian Rope in 1990.

Founder member and keyboard player Rob Collins died in a road accident in 1996.
