‘Pyjama Girls’ an interesting look at Dublin teens
Director: Maya Derrington
Derrington’s excellent documentary following the lives of two Dublin friends, Tara and Lauren, enjoys a nationwide release this weekend.
It tries to be honest and non-judgemental about that curious breed of young inner-city girls who can be seen wearing their pyjama gear.
But the film is depressing in that such girls, with attitude, come from a background that offers them little or no routes of escape from their day-to-day existence.
Interestingly, the two main characters – given a more solid upbringing – show glimpses of what they could become.
An interesting and unusual film all round.
