'5 O'Clock Show' axed

'The 5 O' Clock Show' has been axed after just one series.

The popular daytime programme was introduced to Channel 4 as a replacement for 'The Paul O'Grady Show' when it ended last year, and has been fronted by a series of guest hosts, including Peter Andre, Denise Van Outen, Vernon Kay and Fern Britton.

However, Australian hunk Peter, 37, had reportedly been hoping his stint as a presenter on the show would have been enough to convince Channel 4 bosses to let him front the series on a full-time basis.

Executives have now decided to replace 'The 5 O'Clock Show' with a new cookery series hosted by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

An insider explained: "It was felt the show didn't work."

Meanwhile, ITV is currently preparing for Paul O'Grady's new show, which launches on Friday night.

The comedian bowed out of his Channel 4 talk show in December 2009 after fronting more than 900 episodes.

He said: "I never dreamt when we started 'The Paul O'Grady Show' in 2004 that we would get to make 11 series. It was a bit of a gamble at the time as I hadn't really done anything like it as myself before."
