AA Roadwatch has advised people travelling to Stradbally, Co Laois for the Electric Picnic festival to plan ahead as traffic is expected to be heavy on Friday afternoon and Monday morning.

The campsite will open this Friday at 9am and a route planner is available at www.aaireland.ie/routes.

Nicola Hudson, AA Roadwatch Controller, has advised drivers to plan ahead while travelling to the festival.

Ms Hudson said: "With the new M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill Motorway opening in April, getting to Electric Picnic will be easier than ever this year, whether you are coming from Munster or Leinster.

"The bulk of traffic will be on Friday evening and Monday morning, so give yourself lots of time."

She also added that drivers should take care when travelling home on Monday.

"Don't forget to designate a driver in advance as you will need to be well rested and under the legal limit to drive home on Monday."
