'X Factor' hopeful a 'ticking timebomb'

'X Factor' hopeful Shirlena Johnson could be axed after it was discovered she has mental health problems.

The 30-year-old contestant - who has a three-year-old daughter Mariah - reportedly failed to tell show bosses she has been diagnosed with serious mental illnesses, and has been described by professionals as a "ticking timebomb".

A medical expert told The Sun newspaper: "We believe this woman is not a suitable candidate for a reality show that can cause immense stress and instant fame. Hopefully the makers will agree that the best thing for Shirlena and her child if to gently drop them from filming and let us help her be the best mother she can.

"Sadly Shirlena is not in the best of health. She has been described by expert professionals as a 'ticking timebomb'. She is not a well woman."

Shirlena became a hit on Saturday with her eccentric performance of Duffy's 'Mercy'.

However, 'X Factor' bosses are now "looking into" whether she will be allowed to continue on the show.

The 30-year-old star has also been axed from the Miss Great Britain beauty pageant, after contest officials discovered her true age from her TV appearance at the weekend. She had told them she was 28, but has been informed she will be able to continue in the contest as it is only open to those aged 29 and under.

Shirlena is not the only singer whose future on the show is under threat.

It has been claimed fellow contestant Katie Waissell already has a record deal in America and has starred in a 14-part YouTube show.

The hair salon receptionist reportedly recorded a jazz LP with US label Chamberlain Records as part of a two-record deal, and a man named Jason Silverman has come forward claiming to be her manager.

An 'X Factor' spokesperson has confirmed they are investigating these claims.

They said: "We are looking to the whole thing to see if a contract does exist and if there is found to be one, what the wording is.

"An existing record or management contract could result in Katie not being able to continue, but she is a fantastic contestant, and it demonstrates her determination to succeed in the business."
