Brilliant 'The Secret in Their Eyes' deserved its Oscar

Good to see this quite excellent and thoughtful thriller from Argentina – winner of this year’s Best Foreign Film Oscar – getting the screening it so richly deserves. It’s a film from the old school when characters were fully drawn as complex and sympathetic.

Darin plays Benjamin, an investigator still troubled by a long-unsolved rape and murder case, who, 25 years later, sets out to write a novel based on the crime as a search for closure … while rekindling a lost romance with the judge, Irene (played to perfection by Villamil).

Campanella weaves a powerful drama that is passionate and intimate, chilling and complex … and nothing short of brilliant.
