Campbell 'will appear' in war crimes case

War crimes judges today threw out a final protest against supermodel Naomi Campbell having to give evidence against former dictator Charles Taylor.

War crimes judges today threw out a final protest against supermodel Naomi Campbell having to give evidence against former dictator Charles Taylor.

The Special Court for Sierra Leone in the Hague rejected Taylor’s lawyer’s objection, arguing that the prosecution had not provided a summary of what Campbell is expected to say.

The judges said it was not reasonable to expect prosecutors to have a statement from Campbell, who has been declared a hostile witness.

The reluctant British model was subpoenaed to be questioned about a diamond Taylor allegedly gave her after a dinner party in South Africa in 1997.

Prosecutors said that if true, that would help show Taylor supplied arms to Sierra Leone rebels in exchange for diamonds during Sierra Leone’s 1992-2002 civil war.
