Corrie's Janice: Rows led to quit decision

Vicky Entwistle reportedly quit ‘Coronation Street’ after a string of rows with producers.

The actress - who has played gobby factory worker Janice Battersby since 1996 – is said to have clashed with new boss Phil Collinson over her character’s future storylines so will now leave the ITV1 soap in December.

A show insider said: “Phil is a brilliant producer but is uncompromising which makes him a bit like Marmite – people love him or find him very tough.”

However, a spokesperson said: ”She was not sacked and she did not fall out with producer Phil

Collinson. There was a meeting last Friday and Phil completely understood where she was coming from. It’s amicable on both sides.”

It is not known how Vicky will leave the soap, but with bosses planning to kill off several cast members in a huge tram accident in Weatherfield in December, her departure may be to do with that.

Jack Duckworth - played by Bill Tarmey - is also reportedly being lined up to leave the show through this storyline.

Speaking of her decision to leave, Vicky said: "'Corrie' means so much to me and I could easily have continued to play Janice for the rest of my acting career. But I've been thinking of leaving for some time, and couldn't deny those feelings. I've a hankering to do other drama projects and so if I don't make this move now I never will."
