Director: Vincenzo Natali

Cast: Adrien Brody, Sarah Polley, Delphine Chaneac

Cert: 15

Clive and Elsa (Brody and Polley) are young scientists working in the complex field of genetic cloning: producing, eventually, a mixed-DNA creature that is part human, part animal.

Dren (Chaneac), that’s nerd backwards, grows into adulthood with Clive and Elsa more and more taking on the role of parents, though not always in harmony about the future of their creation.

An off-centre film that isn’t quite a horror – indeed, it’s difficult to decide what exactly it is – but on every other level it’s an interesting, thought-provoking film with strong central characters dealing with the perils of such experimentation, cloning, and love.
