Lowe linked to Miramax buyout bid
Rob Lowe is said to be involved in a bid to buy Miramax Films.
The âBrothers & Sistersâ actor has been linked to a deal by Tom Barrackâs Colony Capital, which is among a number of bidders for the production company, responsible for movies including âThe Queenâ and âNo Country for Old Menâ.
An insider revealed to the New York Post: âItâs fair to say Loweâs a friend of Colony and heâll be involved in some larger sense. They value his opinion and he has ideas.â
Talks with Harvey and Bob Weinstein â who co-founded Miramax and are responsible for the release of films such as âPulp Fictionâ and âShakespeare in Loveâ â have faltered, meaning Colony has taken the lead in discussions, which may conclude in the next few days.
Colony is said to have considered placing a bid of between $600m and $700m (âŹ473m and âŹ552m) for the company, while the Weinsteins' earlier bid was thought to be around $550m (âŹ434m).
According to TMZ, Lowe, Barrack and construction mogul Ron Tutor plan to turn Miramax into a âmulti-platform media company, similar to DreamWorksâ.
Upcoming films set to be released by Miramax include âThe Switchâ starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman and âLast Nightâ with Keira Knightley and Sam Worthington.
