Stallone regrets 'Judge Dredd'

Sylvester Stallone thinks 'Judge Dredd' was his "biggest mistake".

The muscular actor, who played the title character in the 1995 comic book adaptation, admits he had high hopes for the film which were not realised in the final piece he saw.

He said: "I think that the biggest mistake I ever made was the sloppy handling of 'Judge Dredd'. It could have been a fantastic, nihilistic, interesting vision of the future - judge, jury and executioner.

"With all the pop culture, that really bothered me a great deal. I thought it was a fantastic concept, but somebody has to take the fall when things don't work - and because I was the most recognisable, highest profile..."

Discussing his latest movie 'The Expendables', which tells the tale of a team of mercenaries who head to South America to overthrow a dictator, 64-year-old Stallone, admits the film has an 80s feel but with modern sensibilities.

He told Total Film: "Let's say we just dug up the Wild Bunch, gave them one more shot. These guys don't fit in this world; they are 'The Expendables', that is why they are called that. It is an 80s movie with today's technology.

"We only had Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger for one day and then Bruce had to go off to Istanbul and Arnold had to go back and do his governmental stuff.

"It's funny because between the three of us, if you add up all the box office and DVD rentals and all of that, there's like $15bn (€11.9bn) in that one scene."

'The Expendables', in which Stallone directs, writes and stars, is released worldwide in August.
