Visually impressive 'Letters to Juliet' light and fluffy

To fair Verona we go for a light and fluffy romance built around the world’s most famous love story, 'Romeo and Juliet', and the thousands of letters written by the lovelorn and left in the wall at the fictional Juliet’s home, with the fictional balcony.

Letters are actually left in the Juliet Wall and are answered by a team of women, which acts as the foundation for what is a charmingly sweet and funny story that floats on the breeze and drifts away into the sunshine … it’s that sort of harmless film.

Seyfried, looking lovely, plays Sophie, a wannabe journo, who finds herself in Verona with workaholic chef boyfriend (Bernal) – he’s preoccupied with plans for his Stateside restaurant and has little time for her – and passes the time helping the women who reply to the broken-hearted.

She discovers a lost letter written 50 years before by Claire (Redgrave) and sends a reply to see what happens. Well, of course, Claire just happens to be in Verona

with grandson Charlie (Egan) and Sophie and he set off to find lost love Lorenzo (Nero) for gran. And romance for themselves?

It has all the romantic elements that please without testing the grey cells and Italy, as always, looks magnificent. Candyfloss all round.
