SJP: Gay fans vital to SATC

Sarah Jessica Parker thinks gay fans are vital to ‘Sex and the City’.

The ‘Sex and the City 2’ actress – who reprises her role as Carrie Bradshaw in the movie sequel – believes audiences will be particularly happy with the same-sex marriage scenes featured in the film because it shows an acknowledgement of their homosexual devotees.

She said: “It’s important to our audience that we have affection for our gay fan base and we’ll always acknowledge that. They were there first.”

Michael Patrick King, the show’s creator, also values the franchise’s strong gay following – which is why the marriage between the show’s gay characters Stanford Blatch and Anthony Marentino is a key part of the new movie.

He said: “It’s not patronising, opposites attract, and yes they used to hate each other but Carrie’s tragic jilting in the first film brought them together. There are plenty of jokes about that in the film.”

The flamboyant gay wedding also features Liza Minnelli performing an unforgettable rendition of Beyonce Knowles’ ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’.
