The film director Ridley Scott, who is planning to do his hotly-anticipated ‘Alien’ prequel in 3-D, doesn’t think the technology was necessary for his new blockbuster 'Robin Hood'.

The 73-year-old said: “I could have got it in as a 3-D version of ‘Robin Hood.’ But it’s not a big deal. It’s all in how you’re going to fill the frame.”

Though Ridley couldn’t resist doing the ‘Alien’ prequel in 3-D, he admits it will be difficult.

He said: “You are going to grit your teeth and light it not the way you like, and then later you are going to have to repaint it.”

He told the Daily Record newspaper: “Avatar, when you think about it, is almost completely an animated movie.”

Though the ‘Alien’ 3D prequel will be one of the most eagerly awaited films of recent years when it is unleashed to cinemas, Ridley is in no rush to re-do any of his other classic films with the technology, such as ‘Thelma and Louise,’ ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Blade Runner.’

He said: “I’ve been contracted but don’t want to. I’d rather use the energy for something else.”
