'Furry Vengeance' for children only

Director: Roger Kumble

Cast: Brendan Fraser, Brook Shields, Matt Prokop, Ken Jeong

Cert: PG

The rapid and impressive developments in animation have led us to expect much more than we get here and though the aimed-at younger audience will find it funny enough accompanying adults will be disappointed at the technical quality.

It is, for the most part, one of the least satisfactory of the recent animated films, full of badly-synched moments and based on a paper-thin plotline that labours its green-conservation message.

Fraser plays Dan Sanders who is sent with his reluctant city-loving family, wife Shields and son Prokop, to oversee a new housing development in the Oregon wilderness … only to run into stern opposition from the woodland creatures, led by a racoon.

The laughs come from the antics of the animals and the problems they cause the hapless Dan, but there aren’t enough laughs to sustain interest.
